What Are Wrapped Bronze Bushings?
Wrapped bronze bushings — frequently called rolled bronze bushings or tension bushings in the industry — are thin-walled plain bearings manufactured from cold-rolled phosphor bronze strip (CuSn8). Unlike cast or machined solid bronze, these bushings are produced by rolling flat strip material into cylindrical or flanged forms, resulting in a characteristic longitudinal split joint.
The homogeneous bronze construction means the entire bushing is the same high-quality CuSn8 material throughout — no steel backing, no coatings. This provides excellent corrosion resistance, high thermal conductivity, and consistent wear properties across the full wall thickness.
The rolling process ensures that the bushings have diamond-shaped oil pockets formed directly into the bearing surface. These indentations act as grease reservoirs, ensuring rapid lubricant film formation at startup and extended lubrication intervals during operation.
